RECENT AND ONGOING PROJECTS

KINGMAN TRANSMISSION PROJECT

The Kingman Transmission Project, energized in 2022, was the culmination of 12 years of hard work and legal interventions.  The new transmission line and 115 kV substation allow the member City of Kingman to import its full load for the first time in the city’s history.

WALNUT ENERGY CENTER

KPP’S largest planned project to date is the Walnut Energy Center, located in member City of Winfield. Walnut Energy Center is designed to be a 55-MW power plant operating three dual-fuel Wartsila engines. Currently, KPP is awaiting the results of the SPP generation interconnection queue for a “green light” to proceed.

PACE SOLAR INITIATIVE

KPP Energy is actively seeking funding from the Rural Utilities Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the PACE (Powering Affordable Clean Energy) program for the development of 20 MW of solar arrays in seven rural communities across the State of Kansas. These communities include Clay Center, Ellinwood, Greensburg, Hillsboro, Marion, Wellington, and Winfield. This significant $48 million initiative aims to generate sufficient electricity to meet the needs of approximately 4,000 homes and businesses throughout all 24 member cities of KPP Energy in addition to increasing renewable energy resources within the KPP Energy portfolio.
